“Sally has an exceptional facility for drawing with that very rare ability to instinctively pick out what is important and unscrupulously ignore the rest. Her work is joyous and amusing, breathing life into inanimate objects with an unusual combination of delicacy and strength. One of her drawings has pride of place on my wall and gives me pleasure every day” Anita Klein.
Drawing is the way I record my life, my surroundings and moments in my life. I observe closely and drawing is a moment I have for me, studying , watching and while I do so, my hand moves leaving marks, traces and tracks of my life, in turn creating a scaffold for others to imagine, remember and project their own moment onto the image. Both with my teaching and my drawings I am aiming to create a spark of inspiration, of imagination.
The line is always in motion. It is never-ending; there is no closure of completion. The moment doesn’t end either; a memory is captured and given permission to last, on paper forever. The line is never erased, what is seen is a direct, unbroken relationship to my physical environment, mistakes can be seen, not hidden. The line is not a perfect depiction yet captures an essence.
I strive for simplicity, purity and flow, a line with strength and power and confidence.
